Everyone loves a good massage but sometimes it is hard to know which massage is right for you? There are many different types of massage all varying in strength and technique which will achieve physical stimulation of the muscles and your skin. So how do you know what massage is right for you? So here it is - the differences between two types of massage which we specialise in at Core Wellness Centres, Sport massage and Deep Tissue massage.

What is Sports Massage?

Let’s start with sport massage and clear up a misconception. Sport massage is not just for the sports person! You do not need to be an athlete to get the benefits of sports massage. This type of massage consists of firm pressure to specific areas of the body, where there may be an injury or restriction causing discomfort or pain.

At Core Wellness Centres our massage therapists are very experienced in assessing which areas of your body need the attention, which is not always in the location of where you feel the pain. Throughout a sports massage session our therapists aim to help prevent injuries and reduce pain by focussing on imbalances and tension that may be contributing to a bigger problem.

A sports massage is very specific and it is likely that only 2-3 body parts will be worked on throughout one 30 minute session to get the best possible results. A variety of clients visit regularly for sports massage, ranging from arthritic clients to athletes, so remember sports massage is for everyone! This type of massage works very well when it is applied to a wellness lifestyle. Prevention in the build up of muscle tension promotes health and flexibility and reduces injury and pain.

What is Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep tissue massage is very similar to sports massage in regards to pressure. It is still a very firm massage but does not focus on a specific injury or isolated area of the body. The aim of a deep tissue massage is to help relieve muscle tension, reduce stress and break down those stubborn areas, but it is more suitable if you would prefer more body parts covered with a firm massage. Throughout a deep tissue massage our therapist will spend time helping the muscle fibres relax, increasing the blood flow through the muscles and reducing any pain you are experiencing.

Our therapist at Core Wellness Centres are very experienced and can always adapt the massage to help your needs and preferred pressure. There are many more benefits from both massage types, such as lowering stress and blood pressure but why not book in and see the benefits for yourself. If you are still unsure of what massage is more suited for you, please do not hesitate to ask one of our therapist!
